Common Roof Pitches
A 4/12 pitch (18.4°) is the minimum for most shingle roofs. 6/12 is a standard residential pitch. Steeper pitches (8/12+) shed water and snow better but cost more to build. The pitch multiplier helps calculate actual roof area from footprint area.
