How Calories Are Calculated

This calculator uses the Mifflin-St Jeor equation to estimate your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR), then multiplies it by an activity factor to get your Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE). To lose weight, eat fewer calories than your TDEE; to gain weight, eat more. A 500 calorie daily deficit/surplus roughly equals 1 pound per week.
